I think summer finally arrived this past weekend... well, the wind definitely dropped and the flies are buzzing around. Luckily we have the neighbours ducks waddling through our fruit trees and around the garden beds which means we have had less bugs to deal with then normal - the rest get DEBug. Our retailers have been busy too, buying out some of our products so there is another container due in a few weeks.
The drier weather means that the hay has been bailed and we are amused by the Organic Fertiliser 'stripes' growing back in. We have installed a rain water tank by our garden beds which has been working well. Oddly enough all our seedlings have been growing about one month later than past seasons, so many of our usual new year crops are still growing and not ready to pick... but luckily the potato's have come early in our EcoFelt Grow Bags.
Happy gardening, Monique, Warren & Co.

BACK IN STOCK
A new batch of our Wool Biomats have just arrived into our warehouse. Available in 25cm or 40cm squares and in assorted roll sizes.
Made in NZ from recycled wool they are a great product to use as a mulch or weed mat around new tree plantings in summer, as they also help retain soil moisture.
Another great use is to cut to size for use as a Hanging Basket Liner or for making your own Kokedama.
Biogrow Spray Experiments
We have had many customers contacting us and providing solutions for effective bug and weed sprays utilsing our existing products (or blended with other organic products).
Based on their suggestions, and after a disaster with regular sprays in our paddocks, we have also been experimenting with a 100% Organicformula to kill Californian Thistle - as this is notoriously one of the hardest weeds to kill. The base of this spray has been our Bamboo Vinegar - photo's below.
We have also been considering Diatomaceous Earth blends for bugs to help the DE adhere better to some types of plant leaves and provide synergistic benefits. We will be working with horticultural students at our local polytechnic to help refine these formula's so we can provide our solutions FREE to our clients... so keep checking in!
Organic Growers Wanted...
Together let’s change the way NZ buys their organic seedlings and plants!
Wild Earth OrganicsUntil now plastic has been the most popular choice for retailers, mainly due to pricing and ‘because it’s always been done that way’. But times are changing and there is a much greater awareness by Kiwi’s of the consequences of using plastic for the plants they buy - mainly having to dispose of them (or accumulating pots that they will never use).
We've already have seen some great ideas successfully work in independent organic stores, so have taken time to research and find the best way so that everyone, and the environment, can benefit. Our solution is to come up with an Eco-Friendly alternative for growers and retailers to offer their customers, that promotes an ‘on trend’ Eco-Friendly option with a point of difference!
We are now actively seeking organic growers to help trial this system into retailers for next season. Utilising our Fertilpots you will also be supplied FREE retail display solutions that you can brand to your nursery.
Choose native and low water use plants in your garden.Broad leafed plants use their leaves like large ‘solar panels’ to photosynthesize and grow, but they also lose more moisture and have a greater need for water
Select smaller plants rather than larger ones.
Reduce fertiliser use to the lowest level possible to maintain healthy plants.
Use surface mulches around plants and in bare soil areas.
Avoid excessive watering.
Zone irrigation systems to water plants grouped where possible by their water use and soil type.
Increase mowing height of lawns to allow grass to develop deeper root systems.
Keep the lawn mower blade sharp to make cleaner cuts that cause less water loss than cuts from dull mower blades.
Control all weeds that steal water that would otherwise be available for desirable plants
Be tough! Don’t waste water on unhealthy or undesirable plants – instead remove or replace them.
